Dr. Ashu is a seasoned development professional and educationist with rich experience in program management, advocacy, training, and capacity building. Passionate about youth empowerment, she specializes in career guidance, mentoring, and skill development. She brings a wealth experience to her role as Executive Director at BSS.
She holds a Ph.D. from Patna University, a Law degree (LLB), and is a UGC (University Grant Commission) Senior Research Fellow . A university topper in her Master of Arts, she received the Gold Medal from Ranchi University. She has also been professionally trained at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai and has worked with UNICEF Patna.
She immensely contributed in social research and development, seminar workshops & events through mobilizing support from several educationists, social science researchers, anthropologist and community from educational fraternity . With several publications and research papers to her name, Dr. Verma brings strategic insight and deep commitment to education and social change — making her an integral part of Birsa Seva Sansthan.
Mr. Ashish Verma is a dedicated development professional with over 18 years of experience in public health, governance, and multi-stakeholder engagement. His work spans strategic partnerships, corporate collaboration, social inclusion, and sustainable development with a strong focus on policy, institutional building, intersectoral collaboration and gained experience in inter-ministerial partnership.
An alumnus of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, with a Master’s in Social Work, Mr. Verma also holds international training credentials from the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), Turin, Italy. He has worked in key roles with United Nations agencies (UNDP, ILO, UNICEF), Central and State Governments (including NACP & NTEP) , and grassroots NGOs. His expertise lies in program and team management, technical support, government and corporate partnerships, and delivering data-driven, people-centric solutions..
With a deep understanding of public health systems, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity building, Mr. Verma continues to be a driving force behind impactful initiatives & strategic partnership— making him an invaluable member of Birsa Seva Sansthan.
Ajay Kumar Srivastava is a committed social work professional with over a decade of experience in youth development, community organization, and field-based program implementation. He brings deep expertise in grassroots mobilization, result oriented interventions, and effective coordination to drive social change.
Ajay holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ranchi University and is a certified trainer from the Regional Resource and Training Centre (NISD), Kolkata. His experience spans across health-focused programs—particularly in Drug De-addiction and HIV/AIDS awareness—as well as social mobilization and community engagement.
With strong skills in field supervision, community coordination, and ground-level execution , Ajay plays a key role in ensuring impactful and people-centric programs at Birsa Seva Sansthan.
Dr. Rajeev Kumar is a seasoned academic and public health practitioner with over 15 years of cross-sectoral experience in psychiatric social work, rural development, and community-based health interventions. Presently serving as Assistant Professor at ICFAI University, Jharkhand.
He holds a Master’s in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, an M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work from Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, and earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. His doctoral research, titled "Precursors, Moderators, Outcomes and Interventions in HIV/AIDS," investigated psychosocial vulnerability and behavioural health models.
Dr. Kumar began his career with Birsa Seva Sansthan, delivering targeted HIV prevention programmes among high-risk groups. His field-based expertise laid the foundation for his enduring engagement with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a certified Operational Master Trainer with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Kumar was instrumental in India's first National Drug Use Survey (NDUS), training investigators in Sikkim, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
A UGC-NET/JRF awardee, he has mentored over 40 postgraduate dissertations and collaborated with institutions such as UNICEF, NISD, and Ramakrishna Mission. His integrated approach—spanning research, capacity building, and advocacy—positions him as an invaluable advisor for NGOs committed to health equity, tribal upliftment, and community resilience.
